Reduce location clues before sharing a photo

Use background replacement or editing to remove visible location cues before publishing an image publicly.

1. Look for location clues

Street signs, building names, unique skylines, reflections, mail labels and window views can reveal more than expected.

2. Replace or crop sensitive details

Use background replacement, targeted editing or a tighter crop to remove information you do not want to share.

3. Do not treat editing as a guarantee

Changing visible scenery can reduce obvious clues, but it does not make a file anonymous. Metadata, context and other images can still reveal location.

4. Review metadata and platform settings

Consider removing unnecessary metadata and use the privacy controls of the service where you post the image.
