Upscaling is useful when an image is too small for its intended use or begins to look soft when enlarged. Common uses include:

What image upscaling can and cannot do

A good upscaler can strengthen edges, reduce the blocky appearance of small images and reconstruct plausible texture. It does not guarantee that every missing facial feature, letter or tiny object will be recovered exactly. Very blurry, heavily compressed or extremely small source images may still have limited detail after enlargement.

Tips for a better upscale result

Start with the clearest source available. Avoid screenshots that have already been repeatedly compressed, and crop away unnecessary empty space before uploading when the subject is very small. For text-heavy documents, a dedicated document enhancement or OCR tool may be more appropriate than a photographic upscaler.
